Online counselling has grown enormously over the past few years, and for good reason. For many people, being able to speak with a qualified counsellor from the comfort of their own home — without having to commute, take time off work, or navigate unfamiliar places — removes some of the biggest practical barriers to getting support.

I offer online counselling to clients across the whole of the UK, and in my experience it can be just as effective as face-to-face therapy — sometimes more so. There's something about being in your own space that can actually make it easier to open up.

How does online counselling work?

Online counselling sessions take place via video call — I use a secure, confidential platform so you don't need to worry about privacy. Sessions are the same length as in-person appointments, typically 50 minutes, and we work in exactly the same way as we would face-to-face.

All you need is a device with a camera and microphone — a laptop, tablet, or smartphone all work well — and a private space where you feel comfortable talking. Many clients find that their bedroom, a quiet corner of their home, or even their parked car works perfectly.

Who is online counselling suitable for?

Online counselling works well for a wide range of people and situations. It's particularly helpful if you live in a rural area or somewhere with limited local services, if you have a busy schedule that makes regular in-person appointments difficult, if you have mobility issues or a health condition that makes travelling challenging, if you're caring for children or elderly relatives and find it hard to leave the house, or if you simply feel more comfortable opening up from your own environment.

I work online with clients across the UK on issues including anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, grief, trauma, and neurodivergence. Whether you're in London, Edinburgh, Cardiff, or anywhere in between, you can access the same quality of support.

Is online counselling as effective as in-person therapy?

Research consistently shows that online counselling is as effective as face-to-face therapy for most issues, including anxiety, depression, and trauma. The therapeutic relationship — the connection and trust between counsellor and client — is just as strong online as it is in person, and it's that relationship that is at the heart of effective therapy.

Getting started

If you're curious about whether online counselling might work for you, I'd warmly invite you to book a free 30-minute initial consultation. It's a relaxed, no-obligation conversation where you can ask questions, get a feel for how I work, and decide whether you'd like to proceed. I'm a BACP accredited counsellor with over 15 years of experience, and I work with adults across the UK on a wide range of issues.

Get in touch — I'd love to hear from you.
